The Konik Group was founded in 1976 by Technical Director, Dr. Josep M. Gibert, a chemical engineer from the I.Q.S. (Institut Químic de Sarrià, Barcelona) at the time Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the U.A.B. (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).

Dr. Gibert had previously obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Houston with Professor John Oró and Professor Albert Zlatkis, and specialized in developing chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods for the analysis of micro traces of organic compounds in relation to NASA's Lunar (Apollos 11 to 17) and Mars programs, meteorites and geochemical samples.

This scientific and technical expertise catalysed a young KONIK team. This team, interacting with customers, crystallised over the past 25 years, eight generations of Gas Chromatographs and three of HPLC Systems, currently sold and supported worldwide.
